A single serial number for each part,
a single traceable identity.
Developed for Phinia's İzmir ESBAŞ Free Zone factory, the 3-axis laser marking machine combines marking and camera verification in a single automated flow, communicating bi-directionally with Oracle.
Zero-tolerance production in the free zone
Phinia's factory in the İzmir ESBAŞ Free Zone manufactures for the automotive sector. In this type of production, the origin of each part, the line it came from, and the quality control it passed must be retrospectively traceable.
The project was implemented to uniquely mark each manufactured product and ensure end-to-end traceability. At the center of the task was not only the marking itself, but also guaranteeing that the marking was read correctly.
Two separate steps, two separate risks
When marking and verification were carried out as disconnected steps open to manual check, two types of gaps arose.
- 01Unique marking requirement. Each part needed to be marked with its own serial number, and this number had to be transferred to the central system.
- 02Unreadable code risk. When verification was done manually as a separate step, a faulty or unreadable code could pass through the line unnoticed.
- 03Traceability gap.The disconnection between marking and data recording meant a missing chain in retrospective query.
Marking and verification, single flow
The machine, developed turnkey including mechanical design for Phinia, was designed with 3-axis motion capability to operate flexibly. Serial numbers are received from Oracle, engraved on the part, and verified with the camera within the same flow.
Get serial number
The unique serial number to be printed is retrieved from Oracle.
Laser marking
The 3-axis servo structure positions the part, and the code is laser-engraved.
Camera verification
Code content, quality grade, and position are automatically checked.
Confirm back to Oracle
Confirmation data of compliant parts is written back to Oracle.
Turnkey system architecture
Laser marking device
Marking unit that permanently engraves the unique serial number on the part.
3-axis servo structure
Servo-driven motion in X-Y-Z axes for flexible positioning.
PLC field automation
PLC managing all field signals and workflow within the station.
SCADA application with C#
SCADA developed specifically for operator interface and process monitoring.
Camera-based control
Automatic verification of code content, grade, and position via image processing.
Oracle integration
Bi-directional data exchange with serial number request and confirmation data.
Bi-directional integration with Oracle
The system runs fully integrated with Oracle: serial numbers are retrieved from Oracle, and confirmation data of compliant parts is sent back to Oracle after marking and verification.
Full digitalization of business processes
100% Data Accuracy
Thanks to camera verification and Oracle integration, the risk of faulty code printing or missing data was completely prevented.
Operational Speed
By combining marking and camera verification steps on a single machine, cycle times were optimized.
Full Traceability
The history and quality test results of each manufactured part were permanently recorded in the central system.
