Complete Traceability and
Quality Assurance in the Oven Process
At Phinia's Izmir ESBAS facility, the post-coating oven process was made fully traceable through basket and batch based tracking.
End-to-end control for post-coating oven operations
Phinia's manufacturing facility in the Izmir ESBAS Free Zone serves the automotive industry.
In this project, products were tracked at basket and batch level to ensure traceability and control of critical oven process parameters after coating.
Quality risks in oven entry and process parameter control
After coating, products had to enter the oven only under approved conditions while critical process parameters were continuously monitored. Uncontrolled entry conditions and process variables created quality risk.
- 01Entry ValidationProducts had to be validated by elapsed time and coating OK/NOK status before oven entry.
- 02Traceability DepthFull traceability was required at individual product, bar-basket, and batch levels.
Basket-batch association with real-time oven parameter monitoring
At oven entry, basket loading preparation established new batch association. Entry conditions were validated, and critical parameters such as door opening, door-open duration, curing time, and ramp-up to curing temperature were monitored and controlled.
Basket and Batch Preparation
Products are prepared in baskets and associated with a new batch at oven entry.
Entry Condition Validation
Elapsed time and coating OK/NOK conditions are checked before products enter the oven.
Process Parameter Monitoring
Door events, door-open duration, curing time, and curing temperature ramp-up are monitored.
Unit-Level Reporting
Traceability records and reports are generated for individual product, bar-basket, and batch units.
C# SCADA, OPC-UA, barcode scanners, and PLC monitoring
C# SCADA Application
Manages basket-batch association, process condition validation, and reporting.
OPC-UA Protocol
Provides reliable real-time communication between SCADA and PLC.
Barcode Scanners
Capture basket and product identity data for process initiation and tracking.
PLC-Based Process Monitoring
Monitors oven entry conditions and critical parameters including door, time, and temperature values.
Central process management with OPC-UA and Oracle
The system integrates directly with shop-floor PLC via OPC-UA and with enterprise systems via Oracle. Basket-batch, oven entry conditions, and process parameter data are collected from the line, while traceability and reporting data are shared centrally in Oracle.
Quality assurance and auditable oven process
Condition-Based Entry Control
Only compliant products enter the process through elapsed-time and coating OK/NOK validation.
Critical Parameter Visibility
Continuous monitoring of door, curing duration, and temperature strengthened quality assurance.
Complete Traceability
Individual product, bar-basket, and batch tracking with unit-level reporting enabled full auditability.
